"Peanut Butter" was saved from death at a high-kill animal shelter, literally minutes before his time was up! The reason? He was labeled "unadoptable" due to blindness. We took "Peanut Butter" to a veterinary ophthalmologist.  He lacked tear ducts which made his eyes very painful. Ultimately the lack of moisture led to scarring on the eyes which in turn led to complete blindness. He was also half the weight he should have been.

Thanks to special eye drops made by a local compound pharmacist, he is now pain free and happy despite his blindness.

BEFORE (on "death row" in China)                AFTER (safe in Santa's arms)

"Roger" is one of the most incredible rescue stories ever! A woman in China knew we rescued handicapped dogs and contacted us about him. He is totally blind in one eye and suffers from Palsy disease. Even worse, he was about to be killed at one of Chinas worst dog pounds where dogs are routinely drowned or thrown semi-conscious into a furnace. "Roger" was put on a flight to the U.S. and is now a very happy dog (see photo on right), receiving all the love and medical care he needs.

"Rudy" was rescued from a high-kill animal shelter with a dead front leg. There was no hope for the leg and it had to be amputated. Within 24 hours, though, "Rudy" was up and  walking. Soon he was running faster than any other dog! He can even go up and down stairs! "Rudy" has been a true inspiration to us all.

BEFORE                                                                   AFTER

"Carmella" was one of the worst cases of animal neglect we have ever seen. She was rescued from a backyard where she had spent her entire life of five long, lonely years. She was totally ignored for all five years; never bathed, groomed, walked, or played with. Her matts had turned into thick dreadlocks and we couldnt even find her ears or tail. It took all day to groom her and find the sweet dog who had suffered underneath. "Carmella" was adopted to a loving home and is now a happy indoor dog!

"Hazel" is completely deaf and blind and lives with a poor, elderly couple who is on Social Security and food stamps. They love him, but are unable to pay for any of his medical care, and are prohibited from buying dog food with their food stamp allowance. St. Martins heard about "Hazel" and came to his aid.

St. Martins provides everything "Hazel" needs food, medicine, veterinary care, and even grooming. We visit "Hazel" at least once a week and are just a phone call away if needed.

Update: One of "Hazel's" guardians passed away and the other moved into her son's house in Texas. True to our word, we took "Hazel" in and took care of him for almost a year before he passed away himself at the age of 15. It was an honor to care for him in his last days. He is missed terribly.

BEFORE                                                    AFTER

"Sugar" was found scrounging for food from garbage cans in the Miami area.

He was 50 lbs. underweight, anemic from fleas, and afraid of all people.

To make matters worse, he had a rope growing into his neck. The rope was

torn at the end, indicating he had been tied up in a backyard and forgotten

about until he escaped and was rescued directly from the street by St. Martin's.

Today "Sugar" is happy, healthy, and had learned to trust people again.
